Junior Open 2023

17th June - Nyewood Top Pond

14 young anglers fished the Junior Open at Nyewood Top Pond, on a good day, the venue can produce some quality weights, but fishing was extremely hard going with the hot conditions.

The 13-16 section had produced a good battle right to the end between Alex Lamont (Wellingborough AC) and Dom Davies (PDAC) when only 1 fish had separated them at the weigh in. Both anglers found the start slow, but were persistent with switching from pole at distance, short in the margins and out on the method for bites. Things only really started to liven up in the last 90 minutes, where Alex started to pick a few off, but Dom had created a strong finish to match, their weights were 45.00 & 43.12 respectively.

Petersfield’s Mackenzie Lewis, attending his first ever match had recorded the largest fish of the day at 8.04. and third in section.

The 6-12 section saw a star in the making, with 6-year-old Dillon Campbell (Alton) claiming top spot with 32.03. Dillon had switched whip to method whilst baiting spots in the margins and at distance throughout for bites, he also found time for a short lunch break.

Petersfield’s Everlynn Wimbleton had put in a good performance to take second spot with a mixed bag at 14.01, last year’s winner, Portsmouth’s Archie Mann claimed third with 13.05.
