Steve Burchell - The Rother at Iping.

Date: 03/11/2026

Peg number: Various swims

Weather: Windy / cold and bright

Bait: Various lures

Set Up: Rod 1: Lure rod

Time: 08.00 am till 10.30 am

Started at the first swim weir end and moved from swim to swim, casting along the bank edges and then across the river. The first catch was a small, eager chub. Continued along the bank edges,

It's easy to know when the lure is working properly, as the rod tip vibrates. It requires some experience, but practice helps.

Switched lures to a midi S silver bream and caught a 7lb pike near the bank edge.

Changed again to a spinner and caught another small chub. The water level remains low and sluggish. Continued to the blue bridge and then returned with a surface lure. There were a couple of strikes but no successful hook-ups.

It's an enjoyable way to spend a few hours, and when a pike strikes the lure, it makes your heart race.
