Check out Steve Burchell's catch report from another of his visits to East Pond.
Date:18/07/2024.
Peg number: 6
Weather: air temp: 14.1°C, water temp 19.1°C. over cast and light breeze from the west Bait: Bread, Sweetcorn Set Up: slider float 4lb line size 14.
Time: 5.20am Carrying on from last time. Did the trolley idea work, it worked a treat, could do with wider wheels but it saved me lugging everything on my back and it was sitting in the garage doing nothing.
Set up depth in front was 5mt at rod length and 6.5mt at rod and a half . ( I use a 15ft float rod.
Set slider at 6mt and adjusted shot to allow bait to drift down (never got passed 2mt mark, baited up with bread flake, last time I used flake was some 50 years ago fishing on the Stour at plucks gutter for 2lb bream (not large but there was a lot of them). Loads of missed bites Time: 6.00am
Changes if any: replace hook size with size 12, all my hooks are now guru qm1 hand tied. First Rudd about 1/2lb, one of two dozen throughout the morning.
Time:10.00am
Changes if any: sun now up and on the water, not stopped the Rudd at all and wind now from the south west. Prolific amount of small fry in the margins, 30 to 40mm long. You could see the large perch in the depths shadowing them and every now and again attacking the fry.
Time:11.15am
Changes if any: changed over to sweetcorn
Rudd getting a bit bigger, 3/4 to 1lb. There are larger ones in the lake but none showed today. Shortened drop to 2mt, instant takes, all small Rudd again. Went back to flake, better quality fish. Couple of skimmers , on bread.
midday packed up . (work)
Comments: fantastic morning, nearly none stop action with the Rudd, next time, different peg and maybe have a go for some large Perch.
Tight lines, Steve.
