Chairman's chat.

Dear members,
As our season reaches the three-month mark, the club's membership is thriving. Our efforts to enhance our younger membership continue to excel, with over 60 members in the younger age group.
We hope this will benefit the club in the future as these young anglers develop their skills and, like all of us, become "hooked" for the long term.
Our first Get Fishing event was fully booked and highly successful as usual. We've also held three junior events planned for this year, all well-attended. During these, we ran teaching sessions hosted by the Development team, which were also fully booked.
We still need more help with committee vacancies, and we would appreciate a few more members joining us, especially someone to fill the treasurer's role full-time.
We invite club members to assist with our events. We especially need help on August 9th or 10th for our event at the Southdown's show at Butser Hill. This involves helping with our giant kids' fishing game and our casting skills game for adults, among other activities. It's a great day out and an opportunity to engage with the public about our work and community involvement.
We continue maintenance work on our waters with our small group of volunteers and will post work party dates when we need extra help. Please join us if you can spare a day.
I personally thank Andy Matthews, Stephen Heighes and Russell Wild for clearing the riverbanks at Iping. Although I haven't seen their work first-hand, they did a great job.
Regarding our waters, Coombe continues to fish well, with Carp, Bream, and Tench appearing mainly in the early morning and late evenings, which is typical for Coombe. There are also some silver fish for those who persevere.
Bo Peep is still fishing well, although water levels are dropping. We will continue to monitor this, as its water source is rain, which has been scarce lately.
East Pond is also producing well, and we would like to see more catch reports from this water.
Nyewood has been slow for carp, with occasional multiple catches. Although they can be seen on the surface, their feeding spells are infrequent. However, if you fish for silvers, it's a fish a chuck, and you might even draw in the odd carp.
As a footnote, Nyewood produced the largest eel I've seen since my days of fishing the Heath in the 80s. One of our junior members landed one weighing 5lbs 2oz during Saturday's Junior Open match!
In this hot weather, please report any signs of fish distress or algae. We continue to monitor the waters and their oxygen levels, but you can help as our early warning system.

A reminder of upcoming events, Harting Combe will be closed to members on Wednesday 9th July 9:00am-20:00pm for a private event. Members are permitted to night fish Tuesday 8th July, but must vacate the venue by 8:00am. Night fishing will be closed the evening 9th July and will resume Thursday 10th July.

Good luck with your fishing, and see you soon.
