Measured the depth and discovered a drop-off about 5 meters out. Set up so the hook barely touched the bottom at approximately 4.5 meters deep.
Began with a few small balls of mixed ground bait, no larger than a golf ball, and used a small piece of spam as bait.
Caught Rudd to 8ozs with each cast. Using a larger piece of spam led to numerous false bites until the fish reduced it to a size they could fit into their mouths.
Caught a very small perch on a bare hook while reeling in.
08:20 am
Switched to soft halibut hookers and added a couple more small balls of mixed ground bait.

What started as a good day turned great with my first crucian carp, weighing 2 ½ lb after deducting a pound for the wet net.
08:30 am
Added a few more small balls of mixed ground bait, and the next bite yielded a 1 ½ lb crucian carp.
After catching this fish, it was back to the Rudd.
Another short session, headed off to work.
