Nyewood Update 10/10/25

Nyewood Ponds Update

In recent weeks, as part of the ongoing Nyewood Ponds Improvement Plan, volunteers have successfully installed a series of floating islands. These were funded by the Environment Agency in collaboration with the Angling Trust through the Angling Improvement Programme (AIP).

Now planted and once established, these islands will:

  • Enhance water quality.

  • Support fish reproduction

  • Act as natural deterrents to protect fish stocks from cormorants.

So far, five islands have been installed, with additional units planned for next year.

In addition, more than twenty water lilies have been planted across both the top and bottom ponds. These will not only provide further protection for fish but also improve water quality and enhance the ponds’ overall appearance in the long term.

Next Steps

The final phase of the improvement works will take place over the next couple of months in preparation for the introduction of new fish stocks to both ponds. Pending approval, evaluations (netting) are scheduled for December and January, with the new stock expected to arrive by late January.

A Call for Volunteers

These ongoing improvements demonstrate the committee’s commitment to providing high-quality fishing experiences for all club members. However, all of the work so far has been carried out by just five dedicated volunteers.

To ensure the success and safety of upcoming evaluations and improvement tasks, additional support is urgently needed.

➡️ We are asking members to volunteer their time during December and January to help our small but hardworking team.

Additional work parties have been scheduled for Bopeep (Oct) and Harting Combe (Nov), work parties are announced in advance on the club website, so please check regularly for dates and details.

If you are able to help, please contact us — your contribution will make a real difference and help share the workload of those who have already devoted significant time and effort to these projects.

A Reminder

The PDAC is a members’ club run entirely by volunteers. These improvements are made for your benefit, and we kindly ask that all members do their part by occasionally supporting the team with the upkeep of the waters.

Thank you for your continued support, PDAC Committee
